History:
As far as modern-day classic rallying in New Zealand goes, it’s hard to find a car so drenched in history, competing in many events over the last 20 years, previously winning the Otago Classic rally and featuring international stars such as Pasi Hagström, Alex Fiorio & Miki Biasion.
Originally built in Dunedin by Alistair Gilmour, the car was run through until 2005/06 when it was purchased by Brent Rawstron and the Rosendale Wines team. Whilst under the ownership of Rawstron, the car was used by the Italian ex-Jolly Club and Lancia factory driver Alex Fiorio in the 2006 and 2007 Otago Classic, playing second fiddle to Hagström in a BDA Escort in 2006 and coming a close second to NZ star Deane Buist in 2007. The car would then again be used by another invited international driver under the Rosendale Wines banner, with the ex-Subaru test driver, Pasi Hagström swapping the BDA Escort for the Porsche in 2008 and snatching the event outright. Notably, this event also featured Michelle Mouton as the number 1 seed.
Following Rawstron’s ownership, the car then transferred into the hands of ex-pat British driver, Willie Rutherford. Rutherford himself had many notable achievements in rallying, competing in the 70’s and 80’s in cars such as the Metro 6R4. Unfortunately, this was short-lived, and the car was limited to competing in an Otago Classic and two editions of the Silver Fern before Rutherford sadly passed away due to illness.
Subsequently, the car was then purchased by Allan Dippie based out of Wanaka who would use the car in a number of Mainland and Otago classic events, with it also featuring Miki Biasion as an invited overseas driver in 2013. Allan Dippie still uses the car regularly in events today.
