History:
The car started its competition career with Garry Cliff in 2001. Cliff owned two Evo 4’s during that time, this being the white one.
Around 2005 it was then sold to Barry Varcoe who competed in some Mainland series events, namely around Canterbury. A notable result we were able to uncover was a 3rd overall at the 2007 Hot Springs Hotel Hanmer Rally.
Subsequently, it was purchased by Deane Buist, competing in the 2008 Mainland Series. The car would have strong results, including a win in the 2008 Gore Rally.
Oamaru based Scott Simpson would next compete in the car, which included a trip to the North Island to tackle Rally Wairarapa. It was then used by James Bee circa 2012 stepping up from his 1300cc Starlet that he had been competing in previously. He would only use it in a couple of events including possibly the Waimate 50 before being sold on.
It then headed South to Nigel King around 2014 who used it in Southland based events before it ended up in the hands of the current owner Jeremy McIlwrick in 2018. McIlwrick has competed for many years in the car and is a regular competitor at all Southland based rallies and rallysprints.
