History:
The iconic blue DX Corolla currently owned by Oamaru’s Robbie Elliot is always rapid when campaigned, more recently by Gareth O’Hara and in the past Dylan Cameron.
From the information we have gathered, the cars competition life appeared to start as a somewhat sister car to the other rapid DX owned by Kerry Evans - that car safely sitting in a certain FWD peddlers shed near Warkworth. It was also used by Rob Pilcher in the late 90’s competing in various events.
Tracing its history, it was then owned by Daryn McDonald for a few years competing in the North Island. Ron Barker then owned it for a time, noted as competing in a club rally in 2008. It would then make its way to the South Island and into the hands of Robbie Elliot. Elliot drove the car initially in 2010 and 2011 before being driven by Dylan Cameron who had sat with Elliot during those events.
Always blind, Dylan Cameron drove it very hard for many years from 2012 through to 2018 across various South Island events to much success. Dylan’s highest placing being 6th overall at the Spring Rally in 2017 but also placing well at events such as the Waimate 50. More recently Gareth O’Hara has driven it also running blind, recently finishing first blind competitor home and 18th overall at Rally Otago 2024.
Historically under Elliot’s ownership the car has been Nissan SR20 powered, but more recently is understood to feature a Ford Duratec motor.
